Neighborhood Skills & Services Directory
I'm considering creating a simple neighborhood website where people can offer useful skills and services to others nearby.
Examples might include:
* Handyman and home repair * Lawn, garden, and snow work * Computer and technology help
The site would be non-commercial and non-political. It would not process payments, charge commissions, run advertising, or promote political causes.
How the Website Would Work
The site would use DokuWiki, a simple website system where authorized users can edit pages directly in a web browser.
It works somewhat like Wikipedia. A user can click Edit, change the text, and save the page without needing to know HTML or programming.
DokuWiki also keeps a history of changes, so older versions can be restored if something is changed by mistake.
For this project, people offering services could have a simple page describing what they do, their general location, availability, pricing if they choose to provide it, and how to contact them.
Visitors could browse or search the directory and then make arrangements directly with the service provider.
Looking for Collaborators
I'm also looking for people who would like to help shape and develop the idea.
You don't need technical skills. Collaborators could help with ideas, organization, testing, community guidelines, maintaining listings, or website development.
Because DokuWiki pages are easy to edit, several people could help maintain the directory rather than having everything depend on one person.
Interested?
I'd like to know:
* Would you use a directory like this? * Would you list a skill or service? * Would you be interested in helping develop or maintain it?
If there is enough interest, I'll put together a simple first version.
