Overview

This is a neighborhood website where people can offer useful skills and services to others nearby.

The site is non-commercial and non-political. It will not process payments, charge commissions, run advertising, or promote political causes. NayborWiki does not permit: Religious promotion, political messages or identity group endorsements.

How the Website Works

The site uses DokuWiki, a website system where authorized users can edit pages directly in a web browser.

It works like Wikipedia. A user can click Edit, change the text, and save the page without needing to know HTML or programming.

DokuWiki also keeps a history of changes, so older versions can be restored if something is changed by mistake.

Visitors can browse or search the directory and then make arrangements directly with the service provider.

This is a non-commercial, non-political neighborhood service directory.

Its purpose is to help people find nearby individuals and businesses that offer useful skills and services. The site only provides listings and contact information. Customers and service providers make their own arrangements directly.

The site does not charge commissions, process payments, or collect a percentage of transactions.

Who can be listed?

Listings may include individuals, small businesses, independent contractors, and other local service providers. The goal is to emphasize useful services available to people in the surrounding community.

To contact a service provider, use the contact information shown on the provider's page.

A listing does not mean that the site endorses or recommends the provider.

Usage Restrictions

This is not a social media site. It has only one purpose and anything that distracts from that purpose is disallowed.

Political or Social Opinions, Religious, spiritual, personal, medical or inspirational postings or replies are not allowed.

Why do many pages say they were summarized by AI?

Most listings are created by using AI to read and summarize information from a provider's public website.

The source website is identified on the listing.

Because websites and business information can change, users should consult the provider's own website for current and authoritative information.

Can service providers edit their own listings?

Technically, we could allow users to edit listings directly through DokuWiki.

DokuWiki works somewhat like Wikipedia: users can click Edit, change the page, and save it without needing to know HTML or programming.

The default for a public wiki is to allow anyone to edit pages. We'll try this for at least a short time. If it starts to attract inappropriate postings, we will limit editing to logged in users.

Google Sites

Go to Google Sites and sign in with a Google account. Choose Blank or select a template. Use the Insert panel to add text, images, buttons, maps, or links. Use Pages if you want separate pages such as Services, About, or Contact. Click Preview to see what the site will look like. Click Publish, choose an available web address, and make the site publicly accessible.

Google Sites hosts the page for you, so you do not need to buy web hosting or install software.
